Default Buying and upgrading to snow leopard FAQ & guide

    Hello,

I have seen recently 100s of threads around the web about upgrading to snow leopard so I will make this brief guide to cover everything.

When will mac have Snow Leopard pre-installed?

from August 28, every new Mac computer comes with Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6).

    Mac OS X Up-to-Date Program:

If you purchased a Mac on or after June 8, 2009, you can upgrade for $9.95.

Upgrading from Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard"

If you have "Intel-based" Mac and it's running Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard, you can purchase Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard and follow the simple installation instructions.

How to upgrade from Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger to Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard:

If you have "Intel-based" Mac and it's running Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard, you can buy the Mac Box Set, which is a single, affordable package that includes Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard; iLife ’09, with the latest versions of iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, iWeb, and iDVD; and iWork ’09, Apple’s productivity suite for home and office including Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.

What install options I have from Leopard to Snow Leopard:

you can either choose "erase and install" or you can make an upgrade which will not remove any data.

How to upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard:

Just insert the DVD in SuperDrive while running Leopard and Mac OS X will upgrade.

    Enjoy

How is everyone gonna upgrade? I'm gonna do an erase and install, and then restore from a time machine backup probably. I haven't decided yet.

I'm gunna put a blindfold on and just click around on my screen until it starts installing

It doesn't really matter what I do the first time, I always end up breaking new OSes by messing about with them

I upgraded my friend to pirated Leopard, but that's all. But then her computer took a swim. Go figure.

    * move as if gliding through water; "this snake swims through the soil where it lives"
    * swimming: the act of swimming; "it was the swimming they enjoyed most": "they took a short swim in the pool"
